Located in the heart of the historic Bunker Hill area of downtown Los Angeles, Angelus Plaza is the largest affordable housing community for older adults in the nation.
The 1,093 one bedroom apartments in five high rise towers encompass an ethnically diverse community of 1,300 adults who have an average age of 82.
A six story administration building provides offices for the staff of Angelus Plaza, meeting rooms for the use of the residents and the local community, a dining room, a Meals on Wheels site, a thrift shop, library, and a Los Angeles Unified School District Continuation High School.
Opened in 1980, Angelus Plaza and its Senior Activity Center serve the needs of the residents and the senior population living in the downtown and surrounding communities. Through its Senior Activity Center, a variety of programs and services are offered which emphasize the importance of ongoing education, a healthy and active lifestyle, multicultural sharing, and intergenerational involvement.
Angelus Plaza is located near the historic Angel's Flight tram, Grand Central Market, California Plaza and the Watercourt. Angelus Plaza is now the home of the Kay Martin Art Collection.
Angelus Plaza hosts the annual fundraiser for the Angelus Plaza Activity Center, City View on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 5:30pm.
Angelus Plaza offers an on-site MiniMart, beauty salon/barber shop, and The Tom Bradley Center for Health Care (operated by Good Samaritan Hospital.)
